Mr. Holland's Opus

Posted By Doncrack On 2:09 PM 0 comments

Starring Richard Dreyfuss and William H. Macy, this movie is about a composer who takes a job as a music teacher, only to find out he enjoys it.

Well the way I saw this movie, was an assignment for a class I have, where we have to find an early draft of a screenplay, read it, then compare it to the movie. Well I used this movie, and I have to say I enjoyed the screenplay more than the movie.

Mostly because the screenplay starts out in the present time, when Mr. Holland is getting laid off, and his teaching life is told in a series of flashbacks. Well the movie went in a linear pattern, and started in the 60's and told the story until the present day. But other than that this was a fantastic film, the story was great, and all the actors did an amazing job. Also a younger Terence Howard makes an appearance.

Paranormal Activity

Posted By Doncrack On 2:00 PM 0 comments

This movie started out really small. It's a low-budget film in the style of "The Blair Witch Project" and "Cloverfield." Well, it's been getting quite a reaction from audiences that the movie company is deciding to release it nationwide October 16th. Which I'm glad because this was an AMAZING movie.

First off, I kind of have a grudge against the whole shooting from a handheld video camera because I feel it's been done far too much. I loved it in "The Blair Witch Project" and thought it was cool in "Cloverfield," but after that it got EXCEEDINGLY old. Well they did a fantastic job with this movie. When I first went into the theater I wasn't very optimistic, another horror movie from the handheld perspective, lame.

I was wrong, it's starts out pretty boring, a few bumps and noises here and there, but that's just the setup, it gets far more intense and scary as the movie progresses, and by the time the movie was over, I have to take in a deep breath because I hadn't been breathing very much throughout the movie. So definitely see this if it's at a theater near you, because I don't know how good this would be on video.

Zombieland

Posted By Doncrack On 1:56 AM 0 comments

Starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Amber Stone and Abigail Breslin, this zombie comedy is about a group of four lonely people coming together during a zombie apocalypse.

So, I've been waiting a couple weeks to see this movie, because I've been kinda low on cash lately, but I now finally got to see what all the hype was with this movie, and I have to say, it lived up to it. The first and most general thing I have to mention about this movie is that this is the first zombie movie to have a heart. Pretty much every zombie movie in the past was to scare you so much you shit your pants, the exception being "Shaunn of the Dead."

So I really like how we get to know the character's. It also wasn't an over the top spoof, like "Shaun of the Dead" was. Then of course I'm sure you've all heard, there is an absolute brilliant cameo by Bill Murray. So if you are looking for a reason to see this, see it for Bill Murray's cameo. There's not too much more I can say about this movie, other than it's my second favorite zombie movie of all time! The number one of course being the original George Romero classic "Night of the Living Dead."

The Giant Spider Invasion

Posted By Doncrack On 11:19 PM 0 comments

Made by and starring nobody, and targeted by "Mystery Science Theater 3000," this movie is about alien spiders that crash in rock like pods and try to eat people.

You want to know how much this movie sucks and why they used it on "Mystery Science Theater 3000?" You can watch it for free on Hulu.com. Okay that's not the only reason, but I find it funny you can watch it there for free, but I don't know why you'd want to. If you don't watch it with the "MST3K" commentary, you will end up in severe pain, because this movie is terrible.

HORRIBLE acting, and just all around dumb story makes it a perfect target for "MST3K." Basically in a nutshell it's about alien spiders that try to eat people. You can pretty much gather the rest from there.

Fracture

Posted By Doncrack On 10:38 PM 0 comments

This movie is about a man who shoots his wife when he finds out she's cheating on him, but he has a way of getting away with the attempted murder charge. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling.

This was an okay movie. I feel like I've seen it before. There was a tiny twist at the end, which was pretty cool and ingenious, but overall nothing special.

If you like Anthony Hopkins, I recommend checking this out. He's good as usual, but the movie just seems like another cookie cutter plot.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Posted By Doncrack On 7:34 PM 0 comments

Probably best known for his role as the Bond villain in "Quantum of Solace," this movie stars Mathieu Amalric as Jean-Dominique Bauby the editor of Elle Magazine, who suffers a stroke and is paralyzed. Consequently the only way he can communicate is by blinking.

I have to say this movie was very well done. I would really hate to be in a situation where the only means of communication is very slow and tedious. Also this is the second film I've seen Mathieu Amalric in. The other of course being "Quantum of Solace" because of my love for the James Bond films. I have to say he is a terrific actor.

So overall I have to say this movie was a little slow, but very excellent. Then I also have to point out Isaach De Bankole who was in "Casino Royale" and the seventh season of "24" had a bit part in this movie.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Posted By Doncrack On 10:52 PM 0 comments

Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell and Mr. T all star in this animated comedy about an inventor who's inventions never turn out the way he wants. But he finally invents a machine that turns rain into food.

I have to say I really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't the most original story I've seen, but it had some really funny actors in it. Such as Bruce Campbell, one of the few big budget movies he's done, he's so great as the mayor. Then another one of my favorite funny guys Andy Samberg does great as a grown up baby model.

As for the rest of the movie, it's definitely a good movie for kids. There are some kids movies that aren't really for kids, but this one is. So definitely check this one out.

Law Abiding Citizen

Posted By Doncrack On 3:01 PM 0 comments

Directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, this movie is about a man who's family is killed and takes revenge on the justice system. Which let one of the killer's go after serving only 5 years.

Well, I have to say I really like the story, but I felt like this movie was a half hour to long. There are many parts that could have been shortened up, and I think would make the movie a little bit better, but it was still a decent movie nonetheless.

I really enjoyed watching Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx on screen together, I think they work well together, but I also think that they should do a different project together.
