The Latest on TV: All I Want for Christmas

Posted By Doncrack On 7:00 AM 0 comments
Two of our favorite things — Kristin Chenoweth and half-naked men — will be in one place tomorrow night: the new Lifetime Original Movie 12 Men of Christmas!

Described as "The Full Monty meets Calendar Girls", Chenoweth plays a publicist who loses both her high-powered Manhattan job and her lawyer-fiancé at her office Christmas party. So, naturally, she ends up taking a job in Montana where, to help the local search-and-rescue station raise desperately needed funds, she tries to convince the male rescue workers to pose for a beefcake calendar. Of course, along the way she discovers what really matters to her (and, no doubt, the "true meaning of Christmas") ... plus wins the heart of one of the pin-ups.

Cougar Town's Josh Hopkins, Paradise Falls' Stephen Huszar and DietTribe's Jessie Pavelka are amongst the dozen hunks appearing in the movie ... and the calendar. Speaking of which, you can get a sneak peek at all 12 Men of Christmas in their calendar poses right here, or watch the trailer here.

Awards Watch: Coast to Coast

Posted By Doncrack On 4:00 PM 0 comments
The 2009 movie awards season kicked into high gear the past two days with the announcements from four major kudos groups of the results of their annual cinematic honors.

In a rare instance of solidarity, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the New York Film Critics Circle both chose Kathryn Bigelow's gritty war drama The Hurt Locker for Best Picture and Best Director.

They also agreed on the supporting acting races, bestowing honors on Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) and Mo'Nique (Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire). In the lead categories, LA went for Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) and Yolande Moreau (Séraphine), while their Gotham counterparts chose George Clooney (for both Up in the Air and his vocal turn in Fantastic Mr. Fox) and Meryl Streep (for Julie & Julia but not It's Complicated).

The Hurt Locker also placed strongly in the nominations for the Broadcast Film Critics Association's Critics' Choice Awards with eight nods. But it was Inglourious Basterds and Nine that lead the pack with ten nominations apiece. Joining these three in the Best Picture race is Avatar, An Education, Invictus, Precious, A Serious Man, Up and Up in the Air. Winners will be announced on January 15 in a live ceremony scheduled to be broadcast on VH1 with Kristin Chenoweth hosting.

Meanwhile, the American Film Institute has revealed their own top ten for '09. The AFI Awards for film go to Coraline, The Hangover, The Hurt Locker, The Messenger, Precious, A Serious Man, A Single Man, Sugar, Up and Up in the Air. On the TV side, such Movie Dearest faves as The Big Bang Theory, Glee, Modern Family and True Blood were recognized. Click here for a special video tribute to all the AFI Award winners.

For a quick look at all the winners/nominees, see the comments section below. And the gold derby will continue to race on later this week with the nominations for the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Friday Night Lights

Posted By Doncrack On 2:53 PM 0 comments

Directed by Peter Berg and starring Billy Bob Thorton. This movie is about the small town of Odessa, Texas (HEY, one of the settings in Season 1 of "Heroes") and the stress the small town puts on the local high school football team to go to the state championship.

I'm always kind of hesitant to watch inspirational movies about football, mostly because there's a huge saturation of them in movies today. Such as really sappy ones like "Invincible" and "The Blind Side." Well this one does manage to stand on its own. It perfectly balances the players personal lives with inspirational football scenes.

One of the main reasons I decided to finally watch this movie is because I hear the TV show is amazing. Patton Oswalt said that when I got to see him do a Q&A session for "Big Fan." You can read about that in my review. So definitely check this one out.

Cameron - The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Jonathan Mostow - Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

About the movie:

The Terminator, released in 1984, is a science-fiction action movie about a seemingly indestructible cyborg assassin that was sent from the future for a deadly mission. The Terminator's task is to kill Sarah Conor and his unborn son because it will play a significant role in the future against the machines.

James Cameron, an Academy Award winning director and producer had created the concept of the terminator characters.
Sequels of The Terminator are Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It's hard to believe that the first Terminator movie has a low production cost but the quality of the movie and all its elements are well made.

The Terminator movie series were all set in a future where machines are having war against man for the desire to dominate the human race. Having the robots as one of the main characters in this
movie series, made this film captivating. There is a science fiction element on each movie and the technology helped the cyborg characters to look authentic. The design of the cyborgs seem very realistic and convincing. The special effects and action sequences of the Terminator movies stands out. The theme is presented well, having the human qualities in each film, projecting what's more important than anything else.

The Terminator series are those that can be considered as classic
movies...movies that never grow old. Simply one of the best action movies ever made.

Director:
George Miller

About the movie:

Mad Max 2 (1981; also known as The Road Warrior), is a follow-up movie of Miller's sci-fi action movie Mad Max (1979). It's a post-apocalyptic action movie that eventually became a cult classic.

This is the continuation of Max's adventure and the summary of the events happened on the first movie that shed light on the political situation of the world - that a war has occurred. It features Max's life after the he loss his wife and son. This sequel is more intense than the predeccessor and the world's standing become worse. The highlight of this film is the pulse-pounding and breath-taking car chases, probably one of the greatest movies involving cars.

The movie has a stunning action sequences without a single ounce of computer graphics that is equally impressive by today's standards in action movies. It's a follow up movie that's even more exciting and intense than the first one and really a must-see for action buffs.

Knowing

Title: Knowing
Genre:Drama/Thriller/Science Fiction
Directed by: Alex Proyas
Written by:Alex Proyas, Stuart Hazeldine
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Rose Byrne
Budget: $50 million
Release Date: March 20, 2009

In the Subway.
The professor played by Nicolas Cage is quite courageous, I doubt I would be a good Samaritain like him... I would call the police to take care of the problem, but i would not go confront the problem risking my life by doing so... And I doubt the average teacher would do more too... But that's the great Nicolas Cage!

Director Alex Proyas has enrolled Nicolas Cage in Knowing, an upcoming science-fiction thriller movie revolving around the story of aprofessor who's trying to prevent the end of the world.

The post-production team had time to add some more special effects so this brand new knowing movie trailer is way than the previous one. The plot of Knowing seems also more deeply thought than we have first expected: who are those bogeymen? The Angel of the Apocalypse or messengers from an other time or dimension?

Here below some official posters of Knowing, upcoming science-fiction movie directed by Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage.

Knowing with Nicolas Cage is not the only movie to be released in 2009 that deals with the end of the world: Roland Emmerich's 2012 is also an eschatology.

Knowing is an upcoming sci-fi movie directed by Alex Proyas who once brought us I, Robot. The film is starring Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne. Knowing is slated for a March 2009 release.

The Plot:
"A professor (Cage) finds that the contents of a time capsule at his son's elementary school makes predictions of the future that have come true. The predictions lead the teacher to believe the world is ending, and that he and his son are involved in the apocalypse." (Source: Wikipedia)

Eschatology has always been a concern for Mankind: the end of the world, the idea of the end of our world is never very far from us... Man is a mortal being after all...

Knowing looks like a promising science-fiction movie. Besides Nicolas Cage is a quite good actor. So it makes this mysterious sci-fi film even more appealing.

Title: Race To Witch Mountain
Genre: Adventure/Comedy/Sci-Fi/Thriller
Directed by: Andy Fickman

Actor Dwayne Johnson got the lead role in Race to Witch Mountain, an upcoming sci-fi movie directed by Andy Fickman, remake of the original 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain. The film hits theaters on Friday 13, March 2009.

In the upcoming science-fiction movie race To Witch Mountain Dwayne Johnson aka the Rock is as a taxi driver who is going to turn into a nanny for teenage human-like aliens! Here below a new version of the previous movie poster ofRace to Witch Mountain.

Walt Disney Pictures has enrolled Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, to take care of two young aliens in the upcoming sci-fi adventure movie Race To Witch Mountain. To avoid being crushed or ignored in the cluster of movie trailers that will be shown during the Super Bowl 2009, Disney has opted for an early start of its Superbowl trailer of Race to Witch Mountain.

Some may think that race to Witch Mountain is a sci-fi movie for teens but I do wait for this movie with impatience!

Dwayne Johnson is taxi driver turned nanny for young human-like aliens in Race To Witch Mountain, an upcoming science-fiction movie by Walt Disney Pictures. Here below the latest international trailer of Race To Witch Mountain.

In the movie Race To Witch Mountain the taxi driver played by Dwayne Johnson aka the Rock would have expected green little aliens with antennas instead of teenagers on the run.

What about you? How do you imagine an alien encounter? Like in the movie Race To Witch Mountain?

The siblings Sara (ANNASOPHIA ROBB) and Seth (ALEXANDER LUDWIG) have some myterious paranormal powers. But they still need a nanny: and that’s Jack Bruno (DWAYNE JOHNSON) the taxi driver’s job!

I think that the movie Race To Witch Mountain is a good film to educate children about science fiction: they watch it in their childhood and are addicted to sci fi once grown up!

Race to Witch Mountain is an upcoming sci-fi movie, remake of the original 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain. This new version, using a script by Matt Lopez, is a modern re-imagining of the 1975 movie. The film is directed by Andy Fickman and is starringDwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, Ciaran Hinds, and Carla Gugino. Race to Witch Mountain should be released in March 2009.

Plot:
“A UFO expert enlists the help of a cab driver (Dwayne Johnson The Rock) to protect two siblings (AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig) with paranormal powers from the clutches of Ciaran Hinds and his organization who want to use the kids for their nefarious plans.” (Source: IMDb)
An interesting sci-fi movie, even if Dwayne Johnson is quite unlikely in the role of a taxi driver turned nanny…
