The Men Who Stare at Goats

George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey all star in this movie about a group of super-soldiers with psychic abilities.

So this is based on a true story, but of how much of it is true is up for debate. I really enjoyed the journey Ewan McGregor's and George Clooney's characters went through. What I also have to mention is that one of my friends compared all the major actors in this film to their previous roles. Ewan McGregor to Obi-Wan, Jeff Bridges to The Dude, and Kevin Spacey to the John Doe in "Se7en."

So overall this is a very different film, kind of in the style of "Dr. Strangelove." I really recommend checking this one out.

The Pianist (2002)

Directed by Roman Polanski and starring Adrian Brody, this is the story of one Jew's survival during WWII in Nazi Poland.

I'm usually not a big fan of historic/war films, mostly because I feel like I've seen them a billion times. Especially movies that deal with the holocaust by the Nazis. Well this one is a real fresh perspective of one Jew during WWII in Poland. Instead of being taken to a concentration camp he barely escapes and has to survive in Nazi Poland.

It's a very engaging story, it hardly felt like there was a dull moment. Although there were a few parts in the beginning of the movie that felt boring. I also felt like it left the story on kind of a cliffhanger, it doesn't quite wrap everything up. This still is an amazing movie nonetheless, and I highly recommend it.

Maxed Out

In this documentary made by James D. Spurlock, it talks about credit and how people depend too much on it and how the credit card companies make big money on it.

This movie does a good job portraying the US's dependence on credit. It's a well made documentary, although I feel there isn't enough facts about the severity of the problem. There's another movie I recommend I saw in my macro economics class called "In Debt We Trust." That movie not only combines the emotion this movie has, but also includes a host/narrator who talks about the severity of the problem.

So I recommend "Maxed Out," but if you want a REALLY good documentary about credit, check out "In Debt We Trust." In both films there is an old outdated short film from the 60's called "Wise Use of Credit" which shows how people should look at credit, but since it's so campy and outdated people don't take it seriously.

This video is a must-see and must-own for anyone who is a Nirvana fan! This video tells about the evolution of a phenominal grunge-alternative band called that is called Nirvana.

It tells about their concerts, the lives of the late, great Kurt Cobain and his bandmates, plays all their songs on their albums, and their interviews on MTV, and other news people as well.

Nirvana is may as well be the rock group for the 90's. So, please if you are a Nirvana fan or want to be one, or into anything that's grunge, this is the video to see!

Megastructures - Dubai's Dream Palace [2007]

Synopsis:
Measuring more than 320 metres high and stretching higher than the Eiffel Tower, Dubai's Burj Al Arab is an architectural icon for the 21st Century. Rising out of the sea like a proud ship at sail, the Burj pushes the boundaries of engineering to the limit. How does a bold young design team that has never built anything taller than 16 stories tackle building the tallest and most luxurious hotel in the world? To start, the team creates an artificial island 270 metres off the coast of Dubai. Engineers utilize ground-breaking concrete blocks to reduce wave impact and prevent water from flooding.


To protect the Burj from the elements, architects create a visually stunning exoskeleton with trusses longer than an Airbus 380 and heavier than 20 double-decker busses. However, the team receives devastating news that threatens the Burj's entire exoskeleton. Engineers must design an ingenious way to counteract 'mini-tornadoes' that threaten the hotel's structural integrity. The architects must also create a gravity-defying restaurant that is suspended 200 metres above the sea and nearly 20 metres out on both sides from the building's narrow core. Expert testimony, CGI and footage of the Burj throughout the building stages follow the birth of this historic triumph.
