The plot of the movie Good revolves around a German professor (Viggo Mortensen) whose novel about a mercy killing brings him to the attention of the Nazi Party, which now wants him to write a treatise on euthanasia justifying the Final Solution.
Viggo Mortensen is a really extraordinary actor. Most critics agree that his performance in the movie Good is more than moving.
Viggo Mortensen (who is also starring in The Road) is interpreting the lead role in the movie Good, a movie exploring the life of a normal German citizen who is embroiled in the Nazi scheme without really understanding the consequences… Themovie Good, based on the stage play of the same name written by C. P. Taylor, is directed by Vicente Amorim. It is starring Jason Isaacs and Mark Strong besides Viggo Mortensen. Good is expected to be released on January 1, 2009.

Plot:
“The rise of national socialism in Germany should not be regarded as a conspiracy of madmen. Millions of ‘good’ people found themselves in a society spiraling into terrible chaos.
John Halder (Mortensen) is one those “good” and is a decent individual with family problems: a neurotic wife, two demanding children and a mother suffering from senile dementia. A literary professor, Halder explores his personal circumstances in a novel advocating compassionate euthanasia. When the book is unexpectedly enlisted by powerful political figures in support of government propaganda, Halder finds his career rising in an optimistic current of nationalism and prosperity. Seemingly inconsequential decisions lead to choices, which lead to more choices… with eventually devastating effect.”

I think I’m becoming found of Viggo Mortensen and his movies! His acting in Good sounds really credible. It makes the story damned real and makes you feel the dilemma the character is facing. An inner struggle that people are sadly still experiencing nowadays, just think of Kossovo, Darfur and others…
And to quote IMDb: “Good is film about then, which illuminates the terrors of now.”
